Welcome to the Class of 2016.
We’ve been shouting about the Class of 2016 for weeks now, but what’s it all about? Well, if you’re graduating from Essex this July then you’re part of an exclusive club. An exclusive group of graduates who we – the Employability and Careers team – are determined to help prepare for life after Uni.
You’re an Essex Alumni for life, so we’ll ALWAYS be here to offer you careers advice and guidance but the Class of 2016 guarantees access to the Employability and Careers Centre’s tailored support that’s exclusive for 2016 graduates.
What’s in it for you?
Where do you want to go? What do you want to be? How do you want to get there? We want to help Essex 2016 graduates answer these questions with their own skills and talents.
Whether you’re going on to further study, looking for your first graduate role or a graduate internship, looking to work in creative industries, want to make essential career contacts or just want access to ongoing careers advice – we’re here for you.
Grants and funding
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to pull together start-up grants (available for budding entrepreneurs, freelancers and business owners) and other types of funding for some internships.
Funded post-grad study for entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs can also take advantage of a place on the fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in New Venture Creations run by Essex Business School – running in January 2017, the package includes accommodation, a weekly expenses allowance and the opportunity to pitch for £500 to cover your initial business start-up costs.
The Essex Interns scheme is a dedicated team, exclusive for Essex students and graduates. The scheme gives you access to exclusively paid internships that have been created just for Essex students to significantly reduce your competition. We can find you an internship close to where you live or wherever you want to be. There’s nothing to lose!
Creative Access Internships
We have teamed up with Creative Access who aim to support talented young people from Black, Asian and non-white minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds to fill paid internship places at many of the UK’s top media organisations. Look out for events coming up this summer as well as regular paid internship opportunities.
East 15 Awards
Not forgetting Essex’s incredible East 15 students, you have an opportunity to win funding to create a new theatre company. Last year, 10 new theatre companies were set up as a result of the East 15 Awards. We helped them put on new production and help to share our actors talents with a wider audience.
Professional Development Workshops
Not as stuffy as it sounds!! We’re running a range of workshops until 2017 on campus just for 2016 graduates to help prepare you for work and help you land your dream job. An opportunity to come back to Essex and get the most out of our Employability and Careers offering.
As an Essex graduate, you’re part of a huge network of professionals who all have one thing in common! We engage our alumni regularly and many are more than happy to offer mentor support or even make an introduction for you. Make use of this network, it might just give you the helping hand you need!
An finally, of course we’ll be here to give you ongoing careers advice and guidance. We’re still here in the E&CC on Square 2 but you can also call us for telephone appointments and Skype appointments.
